The Trial

Today's fiction is to give you a third person account of someone who loved more, or so they believe.

You can scour through different cultures, languages, and every bit of the world. Every time you'd find at least one such hopeless romantic who'd fall for the most unexpected unromantic.

She was no different.

A self reliant, fierce, self aware, confident, insanely talented and yet, astonishingly emotional; some would even call her a control freak. But fortunately for the world, her control was strictly limited to herself.

So what really happens when a control freak loses control?

Her life had always been pretty straightforward when the decisions were about her. She was not only the orchestrator of her fate but also the sole judge of her decree.

Yet, perfect harmony had always felt like a foreign concept.

Life always had its unique ways to keep her exceptional mind and ethereal heart at war.

Incapable of keeping her inner conflicts and her worldly commitments aloof, she was suffocated with the weight of her own unrelenting expectations.

It all came down to one single truth, in fact just one word - LOVE

A messy, imperfect, yet irresistible LOVE!

And so, that night she cried the loudest silence she ever knew, being the loneliest she had ever been in a crowded room, she wept until she drowned in her own standards, questioning her self-worth.

For someone who was all about self love, she fell asleep seeking validation from one soul who she now placed before herself.

As sleep claimed her, her chaos demanded order, and so, a court was called to session.

Note from the Author

Hi, Dear Reader,

Thank you for staying, for feeling, and for carrying Court of Love with you beyond just words.

What once began as a story found its way back to me, a little more real, a little more personal. This time, it isn’t just about love… it’s about everything that comes with it... the conflict, the chaos, and the quiet battles we don’t always speak of.

If you’ve ever found yourself caught between your heart and your mind, this story might feel a little too familiar.

And maybe that’s the point.

Thank you for being here again.

The Illusion of Progress

I’ve always believed I grew up in a progressive family.

Of course, perception is subjective - shaped by what we’re told, what we choose to see, and what we want to believe.

My version of “progressive” was built on stories where I was always the protagonist. And maybe that’s what fed my ego just enough for me to grow up distant from ideas like “a son is the pride of the family” or “the heir to the family name.”

For a very long time, I used to think those were concepts buried somewhere in ancient India… or at worst, lingering only in the more conservative corners of society.

Because me?

My family celebrated my birth like a festival. Men distributing sweets across the hospital, women tearing up with joy, I was nothing less than a blessing in their eyes. As the firstborn, I was pampered endlessly. Loved, cherished… almost glorified. But there was one sentence I heard far too often -

Tu beti nahi, beta hai mera.” (You aren't a daughter; you are my son.)

And yes, it sounds like a compliment. Until one day, it doesn’t.

Why couldn’t I just be a 'beti'… and still make you that proud?

If that sounds dramatic, consider something smaller. Something quieter.

For as long as I can remember, a beautifully framed photograph of my grandfather hung in our living room. After he passed away, it found a more sacred place in our temple. A symbol of love, respect, devotion by my parents, I'd say. But today, I watched my mother struggle to find even a single picture of her father.

Now I'm not talking about equality or competition, but a question does arise..
If one man could be worshipped, why was it so hard to even trace the existence of another?

And it doesn’t stop there. I’ve grown up watching this unspoken expectation, that no matter how tired we are, my mother or I would get up if something needed to be done, and truthfully, its so deep rooted that now it only seems natural and right.

But again.. Why is it difficult for me to say no to something as small as toasting a bread, but completely acceptable for my brother to not even know how to do it? Why am I the one who must think about “society” and its ever-watching eyes, while for him, he is excused for not even acknowledging it!

Why are women the sole custodians of "dignity," while for men, the shrug of a shoulder suffices: “Ladkon ka kya hai?”

So yes, I grew up in what I believed was a progressive family, but it makes me wonder will I ever truly know what the difference actually is?

Well maybe let's not talk about me or my family for a minute. I'm sure each one of you would've atleast once heard this sentence - "Budhape ki lathi hota hai beta", meaning a son is parents backbone in their old age.
Ironically, the same parents expect their daughter-in-law to be 'sarvagun sampann' (perfect in every way), so that her's are the shoulders, the responsibilities rest on. While their beloved support system is out their earning a living, his better half is burdened with shaping the home, reviving the spirits, keeping religion alive, nurturing the kids, servicing the parents, and guess what? babying him, their so-called 'support system'!

And if she works? If she has a career and heaven forbid, fails to manage the chores for a single day? The best minds will say, “Shauk ke liye karti hai” (She only works for her own whim).

They walk away patting themselves on the back, saying, "It’s not easy being a woman; we're proud of you." Shockingly, nothing really changes.

People love to mock the idea that women are "impossible to understand." But the answer to what a woman wants is the simplest one of all.

The only problem is.. Those who know, we don't believe exist! And those who don't? They aren't looking closely enough to see the illusion for what it is.

So am I gonna answer this? I'll leave it upto you to figure out. Maybe one day, you will..
Else,
I strongly agree to the fact that its not easy being a woman in the society that we wake up to everyday!

I too had a pet..

It was a fine afternoon on April 3rd, 2024 when I left college early. The sun shone bright above my head and the wind was a little chilly. I, along with my girlies, was looking for a rickshaw when mum called in a rather worried yet happy disposition. "VISHU!!", she said, "Vo billi thi na, she had babies, gharr mein!!", she continued. I almost didn't hear her at first as my mind and my heart weren't ready for it. Since I was little, I wasn't allowed to think of having a domestic animal, 'cause in mum's words "main unhe sambhalungi to tumhe kon sambhalega?" or "Tum ho to ghar mein, kutte-billi ki kya zarurat". So in that case, I couldn't come to terms with the fact that it was actually happening! And that too, a cat! as if my wishes were all heard at once. Just then a series of mixed emotions rushed through my heart--

- Will I be allowed to keep them?

- Mum won't allow one cat, let alone 4 (Yeah! she had 3 baby kittens)

- Will I be able to see them?

- Mum won't send them away, will she?

- Maybe she will

- Who will take care of them?

- Will they be scared of me?

- What if I just steal one of the kittens (*devil*)

- Their mother is the best for them, maybe..

These thoughts were an unlimited supply of uncertainty, assumptions, excitement and restlessness, all that I thought will fade away once I see the little doses of happiness.

On my way back home, mum tried to record a video of those mischievous hellions and send me. They were barely visible but my excitement now, had no bounds.

Their mum kept them in a cardboard box secured by big pieces of cardboards on all sides leaving a little opening on the lid from where she peeked out and stared at anyone who dared to attempt to see her babies.

Possessive creatures? I say she's just a mother, not so different from humans in the terms of emotions, no?

So we would wait for her to go on her daily rounds, so we could shower some love on the lil ones newly born. We would keep milk for the mother, the only way of our interaction with her.

People from family and a few friends came and saw the serene soft and mischievous little goons and admire.

And I?
I avoided seeing them as much as I could for I knew they will leave in a week or so.. once they grow up a little.. and the thought of getting attached scared me.

Then one morning, I was still sleeping when their voices so loud-- "meow", "meow", "meow"-- woke me up! What a melodious morning alarm, wouldn't mind waking up to it everyday,  I thought to myself.
Up until the afternoon their meows increased and we decided to go and ensure if everything is fine or not. So, the 5 of us (me, my brother, my mum, and my cousin sissy and little brother) set out on a mission, walked up to the rooftop room (where their cardboard box was). I was wearing loose slippers and was in the end of the queue trying to figure out what was happening by peeking. Mum removed the upper lid-like cardboard thinking that the cat was not there. Just then, the stairs became a battlefield of constant chaos. With everyone running downstairs as if it were a tiger and not a cat. The cat, scared herself took a huge jump and fell right over me.. unable to find a surface to run her legs on, she danced (presumptuously) a little over my head, making my loose slippers lose their grip, and both of us fell through the stairs; she ran; and I?- sat there in disbelief and laughed on the fact that a cat made me fall on the stairs.. which is still funny to me somehow.
So then ignoring the aches in my body, I once again climbed upto the rooftop where the meows were still as loud and my brother was trying to help one of the baby kittens come out from below a congested place he stuck himself into. The other two making the job tougher continuously as their grown up selves refused to stay restricted in a box double their size.
The cat growled to come back which is when we decided to back off, thinking she might have it under control.
That evening was the last we gave them milk.
The following morning we searched everywhere if they're still there. But sadly, they weren't.

I was leaving from college early that day when mum called to inform me that the cats were not there anymore in our home.
I felt like I was living a dream which was now, over!

So, yeah, I too had a pet, nothing bad happened, but they found a new home, I hope, still hoping to see them again, one day, maybe..!

Maybe...

DISCLAIMER: Its a memo, not a poem.. please don't look for rhyming scheme 🫣

"I love you"
"Maybe that.."
That is the reason
Am amorous, devoted,
My joy has no bounds,
My love ascends

But all this just when
I have you by my side
The moment you're distant
My joy's in no sight
Maybe i have a lot of
You in my 'around
Maybe without you
My life goes vague
Maybe the reason I'm stuck is
Back to that,
That i love you so much
"Maybe that"

Well if I look closely,
Its not all true
When you're not around,
The world, for me, is anew
Freshness that comes with
Faces I leave behind
At times when I have you.
When Alone, those are mine.

The world is cruel, or so I've heard
Bet people are not all same
Coz take it from me who's taken a few granted
Those fews' keep me checked when I go insane.

Look, I know I have you
Holding me tight.
Whenever I'll fall
You'll pull with all might,
But I'm not sure the person who'll come back
Will be the same me, will it then be right?

Maybe the version of you I adore
Is the one that never did exist
Maybe the current is you, yourself
But what I signed up for, was sure not this!
But then again I am stuck as of now
Coz the idea to leave is a no go
For even if it was an idea I adored,
My heart still cares for that inkling of hope
The reason again is simply that
That I love you so much
'Maybe that'

I know you love me and I do too
So much that I can't live without
Just I feel stuck when my heart
And this mind of mine are on outs
I love you but is that enough?
Coz reliance on you, for me, its tough
Is the person you are really you?
Or will my future turn dark
Will I ever understand you? And you?
Will we ever?
Maybe we just will have to find out..
'Maybe that'

Every inch of you
I adore nd care
But our love perhaps
Is the problem here
I mean, Maybe! Ryt?

A Thought, Not So Random..

It's funny how you can evince different sides of your personality depending on who you are with.

Sometimes, though it's confusing as well for what you find difficult to figure out is that which of these people ACTUALLY define you. It's then you feel like being distant from the chaotic world; where your heart urges and searches for a soul out there who will make silences comfortable for you.

It's when you find that one person, that you feel for the first time that nothing's worth more than the moment you're in; when you start realizing that "life is a race and only the best one will survive" is nothing but a mere notion. The truth, however, is that whoever's happy will fair better than JUST surviving.

With that one person's presence comes steadiness, with him comes security. It's that person with whom the usually "hyperactive, talkative and always busy- you" can feel at ease and go hours being quiet and just embracing the fact that your life is way better at this very moment than it ever was or will be; because the truth is that at the end of every day, your heart needs that peace from chaos, it craves stillness and safety, which that one divine soul assures you..

But isn't it a bit omnious that a person so active all around stays quiet around a certain someone? Well perhaps its your love for their aura, for their charm, for the effect they have on you when they're around, as a calm sea at night or an early morning bird therapy, everything just seems to be a little more beautiful than it usually is. That's the magic they create and not a restriction.

While you figure out your true self in this calmness, you grow, you mature, and you start to believe that present is all that's worth being dramatic over. Sure you need to work for your future, but what fun would the future be if you stop relishing in the moments of the precious time you're in currently?

Maybe that's just a lil concept from the theory of LOVE, we all seem to be exploring throughout our lives...

Life, Love and In Between

Life, it seemed, always had a bucket full of surprises to drench her enthusiastic yet confused little mind in all forms of adventure, known AND unknown.

You must be wondering which aspect of her disastrously amazing life am I stressing on today..

Wanna guess?

Okay so.. here's your clue..

What's the first 4-letter word that comes to your mind when I say— "the sheer necessity for the survival of humanity in a living being"?

Okay! Okay! That was indeed a rather nerdy and scientific clue for probably the simplest word ever!

Yeah.. that's LOVE!! <3

So this sweet, innocent little angel was actually a devil inside. An unstable mind with a lot of excitement to explore what the world has to offer. From the very beginning, a stable commitment and uniformity was far from "her type". But isn't it obvious for a person who had weekly attraction updates and who got bored of stuff real quick?

Sounds mean though, right?

The thing about love? — You may be a typical ice maiden warrior or the biggest winsome coquette, but once that 'real' kind of love collides with your instability, all you look for is steadiness.

All you need to do is "believe" that you will find it one day.. to "believe" their actually is a thing called 'TRUE LOVE' and no it's not just some cringey, 'gotta-stay-away-from-it' stuff to make rom-coms and romance novels go rainbows and unicorns!

SO WAS SHE A "BELIEVER"??

OH! You have no idea! Her beliefs sufficed to lengths that could make heavens fall for her. She was a tomboy personality on the outside with George ("The hopeless romantic" of Georgian Stories) being her spirit and soul!

Yet she believed in not to bide her time for that love to come to her, rather her pixie- dominant side made her popular and way distant from real affection, closer she was to momentary flings and hence, the weekly updates!!!!

Sad, how a believer didn't find her belief right?

The story doesn't end here..

One fine time, her fling seemed to last a little longer, that affection seemed to be much more realistic, the things appeared clearer, her bored-self was no longer bored and weekly crushes? Well they stopped for the first ever time! And there it was- her 'belief', with a shining bright smile!

Guess she did find her love afterall?

Well..

The sun was brighter,

The pain was gone

That pure lil heart now

Was ready to be owned

She strongly believed,

Life would be at ease

That the moon- lit nights

Will now bring her peace

She was well known

That she deserved it all

Unaware of his competence

She couldn't help but fall

For a guy who maybe,

Tried his best

Impressed she was,

But never felt blessed

For he who she thought

She would love forever

Just left mere memories

Her heart would treasure!

.....

So our little devilish angel still had a long way to go. Her forever in thoughts was left to whenever and the burden of that heartbreak was too much to not drown in!

BUT....

RESERVATION- An approach demanding alteration

Sitting by my desk this fine day, my thoughts led to me feeling sorry for EQUALITY for its theoretical approach never reached practicality in our system.

Which system? You must be wondering..

I'm talking about our very own regime!!

As "proud" (note that the adjective is purely relative) citizens of India, we often find people in different age groups sniveling over disparate issues. That child who couldn't get into the college of his choice because his marks didn't match the "creamy layer" cutoff; or that postgraduate who couldn't make it to the job because the vacancy ought to be occupied by the reserved category chap; this list will go on and on..

Now the must question here is-- Why so??

Answer?-- RESERVATION!!

What is reservation?-- The act of withholding a special place or position for someone is called as reservation. Reservation in India is all about reserving access to seats in government jobs, educational institutions, and even legislatures to certain sections of the population. It also is known as "Positive Discrimination" by a few.

Its a government policy marked by the Constitution of India. It has its roots embedded deep within our legalities. In India, reservation is provided in:

1. Government Educational Institutions (like IITs, IIMs, etc)- as per Article 15-(4),(5), and (6).

2. Government Jobs (like IAS, IPS etc)- as per Article 16-(4) and (6).

3. Legislatures (Parliament, and State Legislature)- as per Article 334.

The basic aim of reservation, started by the founding father of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for 10 years after the adoption of Constitution, was to bring social and economic equality in our society. Indian constitution primarily defines caste-based reservation.

So I guess this much briefing of the word reservation would be all that we need here. Coming back to our take on this.. why am I stressing on the fact that reservation KILLED equality?

Before moving to this answer, I'd like to first acknowledge the statement that goes like- "Reservation ensures "EQUITY", not "Equality"!; Okay.. well? What is the difference? Equality means everyone is treated the same exact way, regardless of needs or any other individual difference; while equity means everyone is provided with what they need to succeed. Sounds good right? It's all that we need. Then why am I opposing it?; My argument to this will follow along the text..

If we begin with equality, in laymen terms, equality is the state of being equal, specially in status, rights and opportunities. Considering reservation here, it brings an obvious gap and a definite violation to the very definition of equality, ensuring that a few might get a more privileged life than others.

Now you may argue that the very aim of reservation was upliftment of certain sections so that this very gap shuts, but for how long was it needed? We say that Dr. Ambedkar introduced it for 10 years but truth is that it wasn't stated to abolish it after that period of time, infact it was asked to be "reviewed" every 10 years; this created a ready-made made bait for the political parties to raise at the time of election, thus tempting in lower caste' votes. Over the years, the scheme penetrated deeper in the system reaching extremities.

Now the question rises that if it ensures equity then what's the harm? But I ask, Did It? Did it ensure equity? Did it ensure upliftment?

Time and time again, we've found instances of how riches got richer and poor got poorer. People with weak financial background, belonging to the creamy layer continue to live in poverty because of the dejection they face as a result of reservation; while those very vacant seats are filled by "not-so-deserving" riches from the reserved category. There are instances where the true abilities and talents of an individual go unnoticed because everyone tends to believe that he secured the position because he belonged to the "category". Day after day, we encounter caste groups getting together to ask for their share in reservation but to our disappointment no one ever takes a step towards curbing the process. What everyone fails to understand is that it was meant to be a temporary solution and not something everlasting. What once was supposed to be a step towards initiating upliftment became a lifelong spoon-feeding process. Yes, equity means dotting on to the needs of individuals but then this would be truly met when reservation isn't caste based.

Wait! did I just support reservation? Yes! I did. I'm not here to say that reservation should be removed. My point is that the issue on which it is based needs to be changed. It should now cater to the need of the hour, which is upliftment of the financially poor population of the nation. Caste based reservation is as old as our constitution. It is a major reason keeping back the economic growth of the nation and setting aside talents that ought to be recognized.

Today, a vast number of high positions are occupied by lower caste candidates, thus the issue of caste-based discrimination is long lost here. The section who does face discrimination is the economically weaker section which needs to be taken care of, for only then will India be truly developing!

The human race in itself is a living and breathing proof that with time, things need to be altered to curb any anomalies or difficulties. Then why stay bound to that decades old tradition?

Perhaps, we are the beginning towards the change..

Court of Love- Part 3

 https://singlavanshika.blogspot.com/2020/10/court-of-love-part-2.html

(....continued)

The helpless Mr. Mind and trapped Mr. Heart one after another presented their witness in the court and to everyone's surprise, not a single soul could pick a side, let alone the muddled lady on the chair of honor.

There was chaos all around and the scene turned blurry as if water sprinkled all over a shooting lens.

Wiping off the moderately dry tears from her swollen eyes, the girl woke up to a bright new day. Bright, because it wasn't an uncertain usual morning. To her, today was different since the little battle of justice in her dream world made her puzzled little head adept at deciphering the biggest scepticism of her current life.

So, she went running to the guy, she believed to be the other end of her forever. As soon as her eyes discerned him, the world around faded; her voice mumbled and her legs trembled, her heartbeats raced; it was as if she saw him for the very first time all over again but she knew this was the first time which also was the end. Her face didn't show the looks of impression, rather it was intimidating.

But anyhow, she pulled together every ounce of her strength and confronted him- "Hey! Can we talk?"

And in response she heard- "So do you finally have a verdict for US?"

To this, the girl's heart swirled. Her entire dream flooded back into her mind from her subconscious. However, her inner strength made her tough enough to say the parting words.

"Umm.. So are we really.. I mean is this the end? Are you really....?", the guy's heart sank, he was out of words, though he was wonted to this.

"I know none of us thought that this day would come.. Yeah, it's hard to accept but we're like that season which did not get a fair chance at completion because disasters came in it's ways.. Disasters, the ones which completely destroyed its existence..", the girl sighed.

"But for every such season, a new fresh year comes to serve it with the chance it always deserved..", the boy tried to reason.

"Yeah, maybe another year would come, but now that season will either be long lost or never ever come back in the same form with the same beauty; with that heartwarming essence. You were the person I wished to spend a lifetime with, but I no more long to wake up by your side every morning, to rant about my days to you, to go for evening walks with or to admire night skies together. You were the one who broke into my vulnerable sides and showed me what the outside world was like, but I never found reasons to why it all faded; you never assured and I just felt taken for granted. You once knew me inside out, you were the sole reason for my smiles, but now all I find are voids in my sleepless nights, voids of the chaos you left.. without really leaving. You were the first ever person I fell for, but I guess this fall did have a rise afterall."

"Do you think.. you'll.. I refuse to believe this.. I know somewhere in the future our paths will cross again and you'll be mine again, this.. this ain't the end.. it can't be!! to be honest, there's no one who can replace you.."

"There's no one who can replace you either. You're my first love and that place can never be outsmarted. You sure did teach me the definition of love but along the process I lost myself. I had to go against every single thing that formed me to hold on to you, to keep US strong, but maybe it was never supposed to be. And for once, I need to put myself above this world! A part of me will always love you looking at those roses, that favorite fast food place of ours, those notebooks we played stupid games as kids and every such thing which carries your essence; the spot in my heart you tenate, will never get altered. But, the truth is I've to let you go to bring myself back..", tears rushed through her eyes as she poured her heart out.

"I don't know what you're saying, I don't know what's right or wrong, I don't even know if the next thing I'm gonna do is correct but I would just say that you have my support in what you need to do, be it leaving from this bond of ours"- cried the boy.

"Can I.. Can I atleast get a hug?"- he asked sobbing.

The girl rushed into his arms for a long heartfelt tearful hug for every inch of her body craved for it.. One Last Time!

"I love you!"

"Until our stars meet again... "

And so, they parted.

Court of Love- Part 2

https://singlavanshika.blogspot.com/2020/10/court-of-love.html?m=1

(hearing continued......)

The witty Mr. Mind brought forward another statement to the court putting another theory from his side—

"Your Honour, It was the extent of the issues that trust initially had, which stopped her to fall for Love, else Love would have destroyed her way before in its most toxic forms known."

To this, the Heart calmly reasoned—

"It was these issues of Trust that Love encountered, understood, and calmly took upon to the responsibility of wiping them off with full consent and utmost honesty. It was only then that Trust started to build up, taking baby steps; From simple single texts turning to late night long chats; from talking just business to sharing secrets; from being just 'someone' to being 'the only one', these issues were completely eradicated.

"Point to be noted M'lord, Yes! the issues were eradicated, and that is exactly what gave way to Love being capable enough to break Trust!"

By then, the eyes of both the lady and the pale-faced man were soaked in tears because it's not everyday that both parties make sense in total sanity leading to some insane conversations.

"Does the defence has something to say?"

"No, Your Honour."

"The prosecution may proceed"

Mr. Mind now called upon his witness, the memory of doubt in the witness box. As the doubt stood there, though it sided Trust, but faced a significant hatred look from Trust as they were no friends, rather enemies to a single person- Love (for now).

"Mr. Doubt, can you please tell the court your side?"

And so Doubt spoke—

"Your Honour, being distant from people show you their true colours and that is precisely what happened here. Love and Trust were known to be each other's compliment before distance separated them. They were bestest of friends, the most reliable and the coolest allies. Love, however jumped upon to making things a bit complex, jumping to the road of feelings, it made Trust blind-foldedlly walk on the path to destruction at a very tender age. Though it appeared he had the best intentions, he was never certain of his part in Trust's life. He made her dream with open eyes, dreams which he himself devastated due to his lack of involvement and communication. Maybe that's what let Trust to see me(doubt) as a rather reliable ally at that moment."

The Mind smirked ;)

"The defence may question the witness"

"Thank you M'Lord", said Mr. Heart and stepped forward asking Trust— "Before reaching to Doubt and considering his conclusions, did you try to get Love's side of the matter or is the issue of ego so important to outcast any feelings?"

Trust replied instantly— "I did! I looked for every possible conversation, grabbed upon every possible opportunity, I asked, directly, indirectly, with affection, with hate, in every existing and non-existing way; all I looked for was a re-assurance. A sense of security that Doubt isn't right. But to my disappointment, all I received was Love's silence and disinterest in whatever I was going through!"

Mind now spoke— "Point to be noted M'Lord, an issue where a single reassurance of faith could do wonders was simply ignored. As a matter of fact, maybe Trust was right to fall in the words of Doubt.

Love knew this wasn't true but now he realised, his slight explanation could've done wonders. Hearing this, the man in the courtroom felt numb and he sank for he knew Trust was right....

Court of Love

" 'Court of feelings' is now in session, please be seated.

CASE: Mr. Love vs. (well literally everyone)"

And.. so began the world's most controversial hearing ever.

Sitting behind the raised bench on the chair of high honour was the lady who was to decide the upcoming fate of masses involved in this case.

In the witness box stood the petitioner, Mr. Trust, pleading the court to prove the accused guilty through the prosecution advocate Mr. Mind, who gave a wild chase to the defence lawyer Mr. Heart defending the respondent Mr. Love, who believed he deserved a chance at redemption. In the courtroom sat some evidences, we commonly call "memories" and a person who's pale face with head bent down and puzzled eyes constantly gazed the courtroom floor without blinking.

Ironically, none from the petitioner or the respondent were to be affected by the verdict today. Rather it was meant to throw light on the future of the law-bound judge and that uncertain man who seemed as innocent as a newborn!

"The accused is charged of murdering, rather breaking the petitioner. The defence can now present it's side."

Listening to this, standing in the forum, Love's soul filled up with sorrow, silently cried, while infront of him, Trust filled up with a rage of equal measure.

Heart stepped up to call upon his first witness, the first memory of Love building up Trust, helping him grow, at a tender age of friendship.

"So how did it all start?"- the first question was raised.

Now the memory guy wasn't well versed with the manners of court. He did greet the judge but inclined towards directly talking to Trust, and so he began..

"Do you remember the day Love and you came together to unite those two beautiful souls? Do you remember how you were cherished; how you were brought into existence at the mercy of undeniable efforts of Love?"

At this the Mind interfered- "Does giving someone birth makes it a forgivable excuse to kill them?"

The memory felt numb and silenced.

Trust, though broken, went back to that blurred memory in his thoughts wherein he remembered the sweet moments, each embraced by Love. When it made her believe his every action was true to the core. When his smile made her heart skip beats, when his words appeared diamond-like pure, when his touch gave a warmth of security, and just then....Trust snapped out of it!..

Know How to Think- The rudest book ever

Recently, I was reading this book by Shwetabh Gangwar titled 'The Rudest Book Ever'. No, I didn't know about this book at all at first and neither was I planning on reading it but like most of the people who do not know this genius author, I found the title rather appealing so I sat down to read it!

In the very first impression, the author addressed himself as the reader's friend and to my surprise I found myself connecting to him real fast.

What caught my attention was the cover page of the book but what kept me reading was the fact I admired in the very beginning.

The author says Children ought to be taught "how to think" and not "what to think". Yeah this is a bit tricky and confusing but when we think upon it, it's actually right and so I found this as something worth sharing with everyone. The author very clearly states this with various instances how 'what to think' differs from 'how to think'.

When we are taught What to think we walk upon an already well explored and exposed path of life, every step of which is well known and has a predefined solution to it. We serve as the copies of an already existing human being whereas our true motive on this land of living is to find out new ideologies and form new methodologies to deal with our life in our own way and not to walk on the worn out footsteps of others. We are to discover new possibilities and make amends to what already subsists.

Progress is practically impossible without changes and that's why it is rightly said that 'Change is a part of life'. The imperfections in the already existing 'what to think' chart can only be perfected by knowing 'how to think' and bringing it into practice.

CBSE results and us

An Open Letter to All Those Students Who Feel That They Aren't 'Satisfied' With Their Results

Every year, when the final examination result comes out, students across the globe go through a series of varied emotions. While some feel overjoyed, some seem to be extremely disappointed.
The ones who say they're disappointed, guys, who shall you blame for your disappointment? The school? The board? The subject? The teacher? Or you??
The answer is 'no-one'!
Yes, it sounds pretty #easiersaidthandone kind.. but the reality lies in the fact that once we start this 'blame-game', we deviate our focusses from things that actually matter.
I know most of you aren't satisfied with your marks but you can't blame anyone for this. See the most important thing is to achieve the aim ofyour life and not to achieve some numbers. This blame- game will only shade the beautiful soul in you while the jealous part of you starts taking over your personality. And then ask yourself if it is okay that some numbers starts changing you for bad.
Basics are something we stand upon but forget eventually. Like how many of us never tend to forget the real motive of examinations..Why are they held in the first place! To compete? No! They are to check how much knowledge we've acquired. They're an assessment of oneself rather than a community competition!
There's this fact that no one knows you better than yourself, which is acknowledged by almost everyone but ends up being ignored. So considering this, no examiner has the power to sign your failure sheet, rather it's just a guide to a new way of learning. It's we, ourselves who decide whether we've to move further or take a turn backwards.
'Satisfaction' is a strong word but often misused. If you're not satisfied, then it's because you ought to work more to make your inner self satisfied. Not that you have all the rights in the world to lose your hopes and give up.
Yeah being competitive is good but keep this in mind that you need to honour others effort while taking pride in what you achieved. Life is all about shaping a better future while learning from your past. It's never short of opportunities for you to get yourself to success. Failures aren't to be scared of, their mere existence is to make us learn.
So stand up, look in the mirror and question yourself "Did I give in my 100%?" If the answer 'Yes!', you're inner soul is already satisfied, go with the same flow. And if by any chance, it's 'No!', then what are you waiting for? Just knock it off by showing what you're capable of!
Remember, it may be a bad day, a bad week or a bad year, but after all it's not a bad life!
Rather than staying positive, stay REAL and work for what you aspire with every breath of yours...until the end..

Just me talking to myself

Life, I guess has it's own ways of going on..
Everything goes pretty well and then something strikes or an incident happens which shakes you up and brings about petty changes and these are actually a disguise of a whole new life because they melt our present life and give it a fresh unwelcomed updated shape which we are bound to hold on to, no matter how much we want to leave..

I guess the rules aren't gonna change for me and here's this phase where my everything is changing and as of now it seems, it's changing for the worse to come.

The new decade, marking the beginning of my adulthood has come into my life like a thunderstorm and it has shattered it to pieces.. pieces I am unable to put back to place no matter how hard I try.

People often see other's life to be some sort of perfection goal, but little do we know about how something is; atleast not until we're dwelling in it ourselves.

I remember how I was the goal of optimism. I was always positive towards life whatever the situation may be and that kind of made my biggest strengths. I was never the type of a brainless-bimbo who would just go around mourning over any failure, instead failures were always a lesson to me  and I always made sure to get a way out of the mess with my soul quote being 'If you're considering something as your failure, it means a part of you has stopped wishing for  that particular thing!'. But I guess, it's not the same forever, huh? Here I am being a complete opposite version of myself.

Looking at myself, I often wonder is it just me being a sleep addict or is it me trying to avoid facing the new me? Sadly, I'm unable to find an answer to it..
Answers..well as of now, there's literally nothing I'm able to reason out. Everything seems to be falling apart and it's like I'm standing at the very edge watching myself dying and this..this very feeling is suffocating me.

They say If you feel stressed, talk to people more, engage yourself in something you love. Well..yeah! I believe this. But what should I do with the feeling of 'not wanting to socialize'? Okay..leaving that aside, I sat to write, but the words don't seem to be interested in the new me; I sat to draw, but again, the colours seem to be at a cold war with me, being totally uncooperative in giving me the satisfaction and serene feeling which I need. Songs, poetry, art, literature..all my hobbies have turned their backs to me as if they've been alienated. It's like Therese no way out of this lonely new world and all I can do is to think, think and overthink. My new mates have replaced my old true ones; the new one being headache though, but does it really count? It's like my life is all about burry my head in my pillow and mourning over my inability to get out of these thoughts that are disturbing and eating me alive.

I've heard, when an artist paints what he feels, it turns out to be one of his best art pieces. What actually matters here is his feelings and the same I guess goes with me, I'm unable to express myself as I'm scared to let these thoughts out and when I do my efforts shout out my helplessness; if only I could give reasons to it, if only I had someone listening to these silent screams.

I, who was once a self-lover me has changed into a person who's jealous of almost everyone around, who taunts herself for being the most imperfect person ever. I literally look for reasons to make others superior than me while I leave out the actual cause of my suffering; which is that I'm jealous of them living their "happy" lives where they're "themselves"!.

My heart sinks realising how much I've changed. It doesn't want to admit that I'm 'not fine', I need someone or something that accepts me to be myself, that can give me back my lost confidence in myself. I want that old busy me, the happy me...
These sleepless nights, however, never fail to give me a reality check that I'm not returning anytime soon. Whether I want it or not, I'm stuck in a world which isn't mine and maybe there's no way out of it.

All I keep on wishing is for my guardian angel to come soon and rescue me from here because I'm dying.. I'm dying to live my own life.

However, at the end..it's just me talking to myself in this lone new world....

''Don't you think sometimes getting away from everything and having a long break is enough to start afresh.?'

'Eh..maybe.. but if 'everything' here refers to your problems, then they'll return..even if you start afresh..so the best way to not have them is to face them rather than running away..'

'Seriously..dude?..why do you always have to be oppositely correct?..this trap's gonna last long I guess'.

Are We Forgetting Our Seven Sisters?

Do you feel well connected to The Seven Sister states of North-Eastern India named as "A PARADISE UNEXPLORED" by a journalist in 1972 during the inaugural foundation of the north east states or are you also a bit disconnected from the traditions and ways of this perversely neglected part of our diverse nation?

INTRODUCTION TO THE SEVEN SISTERS

The seven sisters are the seven states in the north-eastern India namely,
Arunachal Pradesh
Assam
Meghalaya
Manipur
Mizoram
Nagaland
Tripura

They are called the seven sisters provided their similarities in terms of geographical features, and their interdependence in political, social, and economic spheres. However, they show great diversity in cultural and ethics.

Let us get to know some facts about these states which would surely mesmerize anyone and make them wonder of the beauty and serenity of this part.

FACTS THAT MAKE THESE STATES SPECIAL

  • Arunachal Pradesh marks the gateway entry for India in geographic terms.
  • These states are connected to the mainland via "Siliguri Corridor" also known as the "Chicken's Neck" which is a thin land which shares it's borders with Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh and China.
  • This region of the country has proudly attained it's title as "India's Cleanest Region".
  • These are the only states which the Mughal Emperors Failed to conquer in their 200-year old rule. Guess how powerful their Ahom Dynasty's rule had been. Shocking right?
  • The literacy rate here is higher than the average of the rest of the country. How fascinating in India is a place where local villagers speak English, right? Sadly, these facts are long neglected and kept away even from our sub-conscious minds.
  • There are 220 different languages spoken in just these 7 states with 220 ethnic groups; dominant of which are Assamese and Bengali. How well is the diversity held here!
  • If we're talking about diversity, the states are world's one of the 7 areas with richest biodiversity.
  • They are packed with greenery, rich culture and therapeutic beauty.
  • They are home to 70% of the total world's orchids.
  • They are a host to seven National Parks and also, the smallest river island Umananda is a part of these states.
  • India is regarded as the second largest tea producer in the world and the credit undoubtedly goes to our very own seven sister states which produce more tea than the tea produced by the rest of the nation.
  • The world's wettest place "Mawsynram" in Meghalaya brings another fascination to the glories the seven sisters.
  • Baichung Bhutia (Footballer), Mary Kom (Boxing Champion), Arnab Goswami (Journalist) are some of the internationally famous figures who have brought glory to our prestigious country in their fields and they belong to the proud seven sister states.

HOW HAS THE MAINLAND NEGLECTED A PRESTIGIOUS PART OF THE COUNTRY?

It's a matter of shame that our history books significantly glorify the rule of various rulers but fail to mention the significance of this part of the country. it's sad to notice that we hardly know about the importance of this heritage of ours which deserves to be immensely valued and taken care of.

If we take into our consideration various platforms, we will notice how side lined are our seven sister states. For an instance, Bollywood movies are typically based on the lifestyle and people in the mainland of India. Places like Delhi, Mumbai and even the southern states are mentioned very often but the north-eastern side isn't given much importance.

We all are well aware of the cultures and languages of almost all the parts of the Indian Subcontinent but are we equally thorough with the north-eastern tradition too?

NO! right? Only some of us are.

Despite having an interesting and diversified lifestyle, they're simply ignored. In fact, many find it difficult to establish the difference that the natives of the seven sister states are Indians and not someone belonging to the border countries. An instance of this we saw in the movie "Chak De India" where the girls from the eastern side were misunderstood to be either from some tribe or from some other country of the east by their fellow teammates.

The government too shows a constant negligence towards these states and it is because of this there has been a drop in the employment rates.
There has been almost zero economic development projects taken inn order to uplift their standards with the rest of the India.

Apart from the dance forms, the north-eastern part of India has been a mystery and the gap seems to be continuously widening up.

The important facts of the states (as are stated above) are not very well appreciated or nurtured. The evidence to which is that none of them were regarded amongst the top ten tourist places in India which is costing the loss to Indian tourism and is a sheer disrespect and wastage of this unrecognised beauty.

The north-eastern India seems alienated since long due to the differences in looks, culture and attitude of government towards the seven sister states. However, we ought to conserve this affluent culture and heritage as it's vibrant domain adds a whole new dimension to the diversity of our beautiful country!

Ours is the land of culture and diversity and it's our duty to value and protect it!

A Bad Day or a Good One?

It's a part of human nature to confide in words that are heard repeatedly from various sources. Those words, over a period of time, take the form of belief of an individual. Some call it mere belief or some name it as superstition.

One such superstition is that if a day is started wrongly, it'll end up being messed.

Why I am calling it a superstition is because I don't believe in it as my take on this saying is a little different.

I consider that we live every day as a periodic cycle and it constitutes 7 major divisions which are

  1. Eat
  2. Work
  3. Rest
  4. Play
  5. Suffer
  6. Recover
  7. Repeat

Generally, we start our day, freshen up, have breakfast to get in nutrition which provides energy to work all day; we indulge ourselves in our regular day-to-day activities and also spend some fun or leisure time. But amongst all this schedule of ours, god challenges us every single day with a new task to check our abilities
And we, most of the time go through a little suffering and gradually we find a way to complete that particular task and this step we can call as recovery. Before repeating the routine the very next day, we rest to give ourselves a break.

Now if we take all these in account, when a person sees a bad dream, practically at that time he's sleeping, that is, he's in his 'rest' part of the day.

But the dream being bad, he suffers, maybe it's beyond expectations and the dream awakens him, makes him cry. But then suddenly he realises, "Oh! It's a dream", and he gets into reality, come over it and thus recovers.

So in this form, a bad dream is no less than a prize from God, a situation where the almighty has given you a chance to not let any other hurdle or obstacle make you suffer for the day since you're already done with that part.

So all you're now left with is eat, work and play with so much extra time.

I guess the deal isn't bad huh?

So how about reconsidering the statement that 'If a day is started wrongly, it'll end up being messed'. I guess now I have well conveyed that instead of being messed, this very day can be one of the bests because you can make the most out of it.

At the end, all depends on our own perception of things.

'If we take the  positive path, it'll bring glory
Or the choice is ours we can keep on feeling sorry.'

Next time, you get a bad morning dream, feel free to think you're god's favourite and that he's blessed you with a day full of opportunities!

The Harappan CIvilisation

Sitting in front of my laptop, at this moment I was all by myself in my room with my e-book opened. You know when we start re-reading something we’ve already read we have that ‘deja vu’ feeling that ‘Yeah man I know this!’, and instead of going through it again we start jumping off from one page to the other. I was busy reminiscing my class sixth days when I caught hold off the moment where I decided that I will become an IAS officer. Well this story would be good for another day but for now I realised that I should go through the book from the beginning. So, I began....

So let me take you all through the worn-off pages of those history books which we’ve long forgotten.

THE INDUS VALLEY CIVILISATION or THE HARAPPAN CIVILISATION dates back to 3500 BC. It followed the CHALCOLITHIC CULTURE.

It was broadly divided into three phases:
  • The Early Harappan Phase: 3500 BC- 2600 BC
  • The Mature Harappan Phase: 2600 BC- 1900 BC
  • The Late Harappan Phase: 1900 BC- 1400 BC

There were 13 major Harappan Sites which were:

S.no.

12.
Sutkagendor
On Makran Coast
Excavated in 1928;
Western most site
13.
Alamgirpur
Western Uttar Pradesh
Excavated in 1959;
Eastern most side

From the above we get to know about the structural remains found from different sites which are:
  • Great Bath in Mohenjo Daro.
  • Granary in Mohenjo Daro and Harappa.
  • Dockyard in Lothal.
  • Bronze Dancing girl figurine in Mohenjo Daro.
  • Stone sculpture of a bearded man(a bust of a priest) at Mohenjodaro.

If we talk about the Economic Activities of the Harappan people, then we infer the following:

Agriculture was the base of economy.
  • Plough-cultivation was practiced.
  • Irrigation was done through wells or river channels.
  • Chief crops were wheat, barley, sesasum, mustard, peas and jejube.
  • Rice, fish and animal meat were also a part of the diet.

Industries and craft evidences are found.
  • Almost all metals (gold, silver, copper), except iron are found.
  • Stone tools and ornaments are also found.
  • Evidences of pottery-making and seal making are also found. Wheels were generally made having red coating and black designs. Seals were made of steatite, generally square in shape.
  • There wasn’t any representation of horse on seals which predicts that horses weren’t known to people.
  • The most famous seal is of PASHUPATI (Lord of Beasts), also known as ‘proto-shiva’. It has three heads and is sitting in a yogic posture surrounded by 4 animals that are elephant, tiger, rhinoceros and a buffalo.
    Lord Pashupati

Trade sector dealt with contacts to foreign lands particularly ‘Mesopotamia’. Trade in Mesopotamian cities of ‘Susa’ and ‘Ur’ was through Oman and Bahrain in Persian Gulf.

Following are some of the trading materials which were found at different locations:

  • Copper- Khetri mines in Rajasthan
  • Silver- Jwar mines in Rajasthan

Bead-Making stones:
  • Lapiz-Lazuli- Badaksham mines in Afghanistan
  • Turquoise and Jade- Central Asia
  • Agate, Carnelian, Chalcedony- Western India
  • Seashells- Gujarat
  • Timber- Northern India (Jammu)

The Society, Religion And Script Of the Harappan Civilisation

The  civilisation was Matriarchal. There are more female figurines than the male ones. Also, goddesses were worshipped more.

The harappan religion was called as Animism i.e. worship of trees, stones, etc. The worshipped linga (phallus) and yoni. Animal worship and fire worship was also practiced. There were several professions prevalent amongst the harappan people which are:
Script of Harappan People

  • Priests
  • Warriors
  • Peasants
  • Traders
  • Artisans

The dead bodies of harappan people were rested in North-South direction with their feet towards South and head towards North. Also, there are evidences of symbolic burials found from Kalibangan which is burial which contains pots but no bones or skeleton.

Evidences show that the harappan people were literate. Their written script contained about 400 signs and was written from right to left. The language which they spoke was “Brahui” which is at present used by Baluchi people in Pakistan.

Decline of The Harappan Civilisation

The beginning of post urban phase (or late harappan phase) was characterised by gradual disappearance of traits such as town planning, art of writing, uniformity in weights and measures, homogeneity in pottery designs, etc. This led to the gradual decline and during the decline of the Harappan civilisation, Mohenjo Daro reduced to a small settlement of 3 hectares from original 85 hectares towards the end of late phase.

Reflection of an Unheard Soul

Being the first baby in the family after around three decades, she had the most complacent childhood which anyone would kill for! Love, affection, care, appreciation, skills, support she had it all served in a silver plate. She was a princess in her own little world. There was no place for fairy tales in her life as it would be a lie if I said she was anywhere less than them. Though she was living in this world of sorrow, she had a parallel world full of happiness as hers was a life which started with “a happily ever after”.  But here is all the irony, how can something be so perfect? Even in those fictitious fairytales, the princess is the one who suffers initially, so how could this cruel world give her the privilege of having pure happiness? Could she really be an exception to the norms of this beautiful religion called “life”?

Well no, she couldn’t! Just like the “Little Mermaid” was confused about ‘how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad’, she also didn’t know the difference. But the fate had it in store for her because every Beauty’s life is waiting for a Beast, and no this beast isn’t a good one, but the problems planned by her fate because no matter how dreamy the story may seem, life isn’t perfect.

Living in that parallel, carefree world, dancing to the tunes of her own melancholy songs as if she was one of the “twelve dancing princesses”,  though her life started perfectly, but it proved to become worse with each passing year she lived. Gradually she found the fact that the world she’s been living in is soon going to change completely.

But let me not jump to that part quite right now. Let’s first go on a tour to what her life was. She was seen as a blessing at the time of her birth, as if she brought rain in drought, warmth to the winter winds or life to the lifeless ones around and so was she treated, with utmost love and care from everyone around. She never failed on whatever was expected from her. From topping the academics to being a cultural diva, from sports to socialising, she was one of her kind in whatever she did, she was a warrior like “Mulan” who lived by her own rules and didn’t care about any culture based norm which attempted to cage her. The best of friends one could ever have, the best companion to be with. And that was why she made friends wherever she went, she had the sparks which made her glow and made others follow, but she was not the one who wanted followers, she was a leader kind who wanted companions, she was more like a “Snow White to every Seventh Dwarf” and that’s what described her nature.

Nature, the way a person is.. there was much to her personality, the deeper you dig, the more you would find, and the more interesting it gets. But the main problem lies here, the more interesting it gets, the more you’ll get stuck in there, all messed up and so was she, finding it difficult to go on with the situations she regularly had to deal with. Things seem perfect from for away, but the truth is known to the ones dealing with them.

She had lots of friends with no hatred inside her, but gradually things changed. As Snow White was about to being murdered by her own step-mother just for being beautiful, She got betrayed by a dozen of them just for being different and self-reliant. Though her self-respect kept her unaffected, what posed a problem for her was her optimism towards people’s behaviour. When I heard “ek cheez jo hume pata hai hum kabhi nhi karenge, or fir ek din hum kar bhi dete hai, just like that!” (Something we never believed we'll ever do and then one day we ended up doing it, just like that) from Love Aaj Kal, I could easily make out how relatable it was to the people around her but she failed to realise this. When she was left with a very few gems in her life, she tried every possible way of trusting them to the core and differentiated them from others; but to her despondence everyone broke her trust. Not a single person failed to show her how they were all different yet all the same. She found her unable to deal with the hypocrisy of humanity. Even the closest ones showed her it’s all fake. Some showed through actions and some broke her through words like Cinderella got daunted by her sisters and step-mom.

Words.. every single word said by someone important to us can either break our soul or awaken it. And that’s where her optimism came to the verge of getting demolished. She lost almost everyone and what was still with her was “herself”. She remembered how from “tangled” she learnt, “You don’t really need someone to complete you”. She wondered to herself, maybe her life was an opposite of those fairytales where they have a happy end, that hers began perfectly but this destroyed new normal was her end. But unfortunately or fortunately, it was not an end as what she had was her own self intact. She had the power to do wonders as she was always this way. She just needed to realise these few years weren’t her days. Soon she figured out she would get along this world, because she was “Belle” who could do exceptional things, changing a beast to a prince being an instance. She didn’t want someone to complete her, but someone to accept her completely. What she needed were permanent people, like Ella needed her Prince Charming  and the permanent ones aren’t that easy to find. She didn’t lack attention, she got lots of it, besides she hated it, she didn’t want to be surrounded by many, she just wanted to be understood, someone who could trust her and let her be herself without those restrictions of this unfair world, she was like a bird who wanted to be safely set free, like the “genie” who was set free by “Aladdin”.

But nothing in this world comes for free; even that genie had to grant wishes for getting released from that lamp. And somewhere deep inside, by now she knew this fact and was well aware of it. So she started trying to let herself free from the thought processes that caged her. But unfortunately, she’s still stuck in them “Rapunzel” was stuck in the tower. Now the thought of everything being settled in is a dream for her which she regularly sees as “sleeping beauty” said ‘If you dream a thing more than once, it’s sure to come true”.  She’s just waiting for her fairy godmother who actually resides deep inside her own soul to come to senses and let “her heart have wings, let her fly and let her touch every star in the sky”.

After all, a fairytale can have a happy end, but the reality strikes when things become messed up real bad and you find yourself in a delusional state. Real life is far, far away from fictitious tales but still the reality still lies in the fact that ‘if it’s not happy, then it’s not the end’. Just remember that “you’re the one who can fill your world with sunshine”.

All you need is yourself
